History of Takahashi Kobo

Ansei era
(1854-1860)
Founded.
Inheriting the technique from generation to generation as a printer and a publisher of woodblock prints till now.
1877 The work of 2nd representative Kuranosuke Takahashi was exhibited at 1st National Industrial Exhibition and awarded from Lord of Home Affairs Toshimichi Okubo.
1890 The 3rd representative Kuranosuke Takahashi demonstrated a woodblock printing technique in front of Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught and Strathearn.
After the WWII The 4th representative Harumasa Takahashi demonstrated a woodblock printing technique in front of General Douglas MacArthur.
1931 Reproduced the Cezanne’s watercolor painting into woodblock print by the request of Marquess of Hosokawa.
1953 Demonstrated a woodblock printing technique in front of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress.
1955 The 5th representative Shinjiro Takahashi introduced silk screen printing and advanced to new fields such as use jointly with woodblock print.
1963 Became Takahashi Kobo Co., Ltd. as a corporate organization.
 
 
2009 Yukiko Takahashi, the 6th representative, became CEO.
2011 Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops at Silpakorn University in Thailand, Embassy of Japan in Myanmar and Cambodia.
2013 Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops at Detroit Institute of Arts in USA.
Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops at Laos-Japan Institute and National Institute of Fine Arts in Laos.
(The projects in Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, the United States, and Laos from 2011 to 2013 had been participated with the Japan Foundation / Cultural Arts Exchange Program.)
2015 Participated in the “DENTO-HOUSE PARIS” exhibition in France.
Lectures and workshops were held at “Galerie Dutko”.
2016 Participated in the “Maison et Objet 2016” exhibition in France.
Participated in the “Milan Salone 2016” exhibition in Italy.
Participated in the “RELAIS&CHATEAUX -Japanese Market-” exhibition at Meiji Kinenkan.
2017 Lectures, demonstrations and cooperated with exhibits at the “Hokusai Beyond the great wave” exhibition at the British Museum, England.
2018 Lectures, demonstrations and cooperated with exhibits at the “Edo Painting Masterpiece Exhibition” at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Russia.
Lectures, demonstrations and cooperated with exhibits at the “Manga Hokusai Manga: Approaching the Master’s Compendium from the Perspective of Contemporary Comics” exhibition in Australia.
(The projects in Russia and Australia participated as part of the Japan Foundation / Cultural Arts Exchange Program.)
2019 Lectures and demonstrations at “Folk Art Festival” in Hungary.
Lectures and demonstrations at Serbian Embassy in Japan.
Lectures, demonstrations and cooperated with exhibits at the “Light of Ukiyo-e – Ukiyo-e Exhibition” in 798 Art Zone, Beijing, China.
Selected for the “Edo Tokyo Kirari Project”, sponsored by the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, to spread the traditional Tokyo brands to the world.
2020 Participated in the Paris / London promotion of “Edo Tokyo Kirari Project” at the Embassy of Japan in the UK and etc.
